Remembering Chicago's Streetcars
and Wooden 'L" Trains
Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, 7:00 P.M. (Central Time), live via Zoom
Presented by Eric Bronsky
This presentation covers the history of public transportation in Chicago.
Intended to introduce general audiences to the subject (in other words, it doesn't get too technical), it spans the earliest omnibus service in 1852 all the way up to present-day plans to extend the CTA Red Line south to 130th Street.
In addition to exploring the evolution of the world's largest street railway system and the four independent elevated companies, the interurbans that ran on the 'L' and bus services will be mentioned.
Whether or not you're familiar with Chicago, you will enjoy this kaleidoscope of colorful images and interesting facts about how the present-day transit system evolved.
All are welcome!
