NORTH SHORE LINE:THE ROAD OF SERVICE
By John D. Horachek; Reprised and Presented on ZOOM by Eric Bronsky
Streamed live, Friday, January 13, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. CST
This CERA program was originally presented on January 28, 1983. Observing that the North Shore Line had been gone for 20 years, John D. Horachek offered the following description for the meeting notice: "Our association with the North Shore Line was pleasant and close, and frequently the occasion for many enjoyable meetings and outings. This month, our meeting reflects the many traditions that made the North Shore Line an industry leader. Among the features to be presented will be the association with other transit properties and hitherto obscure aspects of history and operation."
John, who worked for the North Shore as a conductor, went on to preserve the Company's records and rescue many of its cars from the scrapper. Later, he wrote a two-part article The Electroliner Legend for Trains Magazine. Longtime CERA member and Shore Line founder Eric Bronsky assisted John in creating and presenting the original program. To commemorate the 60th Anniversary of CNS&M abandonment, Eric will reprise this memorable program—one of the all-time best ever presented at CERA. Join us for this informative and entertaining two-hour program and pass the word along. See you then!
