To anyone living along the Fox River outside of Chicago early in the twentieth century, the air was alive with the sound of traction motors. Aurora and Elgin boasted respectable streetcar systems which were connected by an interurban. Traction service along the river went as far as Carpentersville in the north and Yorkville in the south. The Chicago Aurora and Elgin connected with the Fox River communities of Elgin, Geneva, St. Charles, Batavia, and Aurora.
Noted lecturer and MCERA Bill Shapotkin will take us for a trip along the Fox River to show us what ran, where it ran, and what remains. The program will be profusely illustrated with photos from Bill’s extensive collection. Make a note to be there for what will be an entertaining evening.
