Drawing of StreetcarFor the past several years, CERA has planned inspection trips of various electric lines, generally in the greater Chicagoland area, but sometimes elsewhere in the midwest and other locations.

These trips are planned for the benefit of its members but are generally open to the general public. If seating is limited, priority is sometimes given to members. Usually, one trip a year is planned, either in the spring or the fall. Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends are popular dates.

These trips provide an opportunity to not only “ride the rails” but to do so with others who share the same interest and in a spirit of collegiality. The trips in many cases provide the opportunity to inspect areas, ride equipment, and travel on trackage not usually available to the general riding public.

CERA makes a special effort in planning these trips to provide an experience that individuals on their own would not likely have.
